LEBC is delivering the National Citizen Service (NCS) in Leicester+Shire. NCS is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that helps young people build skills for work and life, while taking on new challenges and meeting new friends.

Year 11 and 12 students (aged 15 to 17 year olds) develop the tools and belief to unlock their potential and make a positive impact in their communities whilst on the NCS programme.

NCS gives thousands of young people across England the chance to;

  • meet other young people from all backgrounds
  • tackle outdoor challenges on an exciting residential week away from home
  • meet with local businesses and social leaders to learn new skills for work and life and discover more about their area.
  • make their mark by developing and delivering local volunteering projects that matter to you.

When does NCS happen?

NCS takes place over several weeks (out of school time) in spring, summer or autumn. It features a short time away from home and a project in the local community. A focus on social mixing, regular guided reflection and social action projects led by each team of young people making NCS a unique and fulfilling experience.

Summer NCS 2017

All Waves are 4 weeks long and are Monday to Friday only.

Please note places book quickly so a prompt response is required.

Week 1 (Mon to Fri) is the outdoor pursuits, team building, adventure and challenge week.
Week 2 (Mon to Fri) is the skills week, where you would be staying in the halls of residence at a local University and taking part in master classes and skills workshops.
Weeks 3 & 4 (Mon to Fri) is when you will plan and carry out your Social Action Project with your team out in the community.

Wave Dates for Summer 2017:
Wave 1: Monday 26th June to Friday 21st July 2017.
Wave 2: Monday 3rd July to Friday 28th July 2017.
Wave 3: Monday 10th July to Friday 4th August 2017.
Wave 4: Monday 17th July to Friday 11th August 2017.
Wave 5: Monday 24th July to Friday 18th August 2017.
Wave 6: Monday 31st July to Friday 25th August 2017.(Finishes early if you start college on 23rd August.)

You must be free for all 4 weeks of your Wave. The weekends are your own to do as you please. We can accommodate 1 day off for doctors appointments, family weddings etc please advise us as soon as possible.

You will be given the morning off to collect GCSE or AS/A Level exam results.

Autumn NCS 2017

Starts Friday 13th October 2017

3 Nights Adventure Residential (13th to 16th October)
Location: Outdoor Pursuit Centre about 1.5 hours away from Leicester.
Four days and 3 nights away at an outdoor pursuits centre doing activities like rock climbing, raft building, archery and many more. Transport is provided and leaves after college finishes on the Friday early evening. This residential is a great opportunity to try new activities, make new friends and have fun.

3 Days of Workshops (18th to 20th October)
Location: Athena Theatre and Conference Centre, Leicester City Centre.
Three days of workshops at the a city centre venue. These 3 days (10am to 5pm) are workshop based and focus on developing skills and qualities useful in all walks of life and gaining an insight into Leicester+Shire’s social issues.

30 Hours of Social Action (Friday 21st Oct plus 4 Saturdays or Sundays in late Oct and Nov)
Over 4 Saturdays or Sundays the teams meet to complete a Social Action Project. The Social Action Project is picked by the team from a list we provide and it could be anything from painting and redecorating a local community space to putting on a gig or show to raise money for a local charity.

The Graduation night will take place in early December 2017.

I want to work on NCS – Can I be a Mentor?

Each team of young people on NCS has an adult Mentor/Team Leader supporting and encouraging them all the way through. We are currently hiring Team Leaders for Spring and Summer 2017. Please click here for more information on our vacancies.
