Students Celebrate Achievements

STUDENTS CELEBRATE ACHIEVEMENTS
153 Year 10 students (14/15 year olds) from Bosworth, Burleigh, King Edward VII Coalville, Rawlins, William Bradford and Wreake Valley Community Colleges have completed the first year of the Leicestershire Key Stage 4 School Engagement Programme. A Celebration Event held at the Leicester Tigers Rugby Club marked the end of a very successful first year for the students.

The School Engagement Programme is a personalised programme aiming to motivate young people who are likely to be stimulated by a personal and more work-focused learning environment, encouraging them to complete Key Stage 4 and progress to further learning, training or employment. Students have undertaken work experience placements and followed vocational courses at colleges and with training providers.

The Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Stephen Campbell, and the Mayor of Hinckley & Bosworth BC, Councillor Mr Jeffrey Bannister and Mayoress Mrs Tricia Bannister attended the event to present students with awards for achievement.

Audrey Botterill, Head of Year 10 at King Edward VII Science and Sport College at Coalville, said:

“The Engagement Project has given a number of students the opportunity to experience a variety of vocational subjects. This has given them a taster of what the “real” world would be like for them when they leave school and has given them a real boost. Many students enjoy a more “hands on” approach to learning. This project has been an invaluable learning experience for them and has given them the confidence to plan for their future careers. Having a goal to work towards gives young people a reason to settle down to their lessons at school”.

This programme has been organised by Leicestershire Education Business Company (LEBC) funded by the Local Authority in partnership with Connexions Leicester Shire.
