Young Apprenticeship students enrich their learning
British Gas Business (BGB) recently welcomed 62 new Young Apprenticeship students from 7 schools across the city and county for an enrichment day prior to the start of their work placement element of their course.
Students from Health and Social Care and Construction courses identified and developed new skills which will be helpful to them when on a work experience placement. The days’ activities were organised by LEBC and provided the students with an opportunity to practice working in teams and understand what future employers will expect of them.
The Health and Social Care students received a talk from Diane Beard, BGB’s Occupational Health Nurse advisor, who spoke about her different roles and the breadth of careers available in the sector. The Construction students received a talk from Jenny Turner, who spoke about her duties as a Facilities and Site Manager and her experience of involving BGB’s employees in designing the new office at Grove Park.
The students were also put under the spotlight when they practiced their interview skills with several British Gas Employees. This gave them a good insight into how the interview process works and what to expect to be asked when attending interviews prior to the start of their work experience.
