Work Experience - Procedures in the event of a Safeguarding Incident

If, as a parent, or a young learner, you have concerns regarding the welfare of a student on placement, it may help you to know the advice given to an employer to follow:
An employer would be encouraged to try to contact the Head Teacher / tutor at the school/college the student is from, in the first instance. Every school should have a specific person in place to deal with child protection issues and concerns and they will be directed to this person. If they try to call out of office hours the school’s answering service should direct them to a contact number where they can speak to a member of staff. Should the above action not be possible we advise that the employer contact Children’s Services within the school’s local authority area who will in turn provide them with guidance and support and also make contact with the school to assist with any action required.
