Construction SkillsIntroduction Construction Skills became the Sector Skills Council for the construction industry in September 2003. It is partnership between CITB Construction Skills, the Construction Industry Council and CITB Northern Ireland. It covers the whole industry from craft to the profession, the whloe of the UK and all the issues that the industry faces. The Curriculum Centre network has been responsible for producing a wide and diverse range of projects which use construction as a context for learning from 5-18 years of age and supports and complements the National Curriculum. Employers can support Construction Skills through sponsoring challenges, acting as a judge for competitions, providing venude for awareness days for teachrs and students, donating materials for use in challenges or becoming a member of the steering group. This contribution enables employers to gain an understanding of education today and promote their industry and the career routes to students. School involvement
Schools who wish to develop an awareness of the construction industry in relation to careers or curriculum projects can discuss this with the Co-ordinator who will be able to discuss the variety of activities available to develop a bespoke programme to achieve the aims of the shool. Contact
