Partnership In Action – Thank you to Al-Waqas Medical Centre

Al-Waqas Medical Centre going above and beyond to support LEBC and to inspire young people.

Al-Waqas Medical Centre has offered to host one student per week for the remainder of the academic year after providing three local students with worthwhile work experience placements in their setting this term. Al-Waqas Medical Centre’s commitment to LEBC’s work experience programmes is essential in helping young people get exposure to the working world and particular sectors such as the medicine, which might be difficult to enter.

The centre has given its thoughts on working with LEBC and explained why they wish to keep helping young people and offering meaningful work experience experiences.

“I truly believe in the importance of work experience for young people’s development and am impressed by the positive feedback and the significant impact these placements have had. It’s fantastic to hear about the success you’ve had in placing nearly 3000 students in work experience placements so far this year. The statistic that 85% of students now feel they can make a positive contribution to the workplace is particularly inspiring.

I would be delighted to help support more students looking for placements this academic year. Thank you again for the opportunity to contribute to these students’ future careers.”

Without the support of employers such as Al-Waqas Medical Centre, we would not be able to offer as many students a work experience placement. Research highlights the impact of placements on a national scale:

  • Evidence suggests that work experience not only raises educational and careers aspirations, but also ensures students are more realising in their expectations.
  • Students and schools report that work experience can improve students’ confidence, contextualise learning and have a positive effect on academic outcomes.
  • A reduction from 11% to 7% in probability of a young person dropping out of school (becoming NEET) if they have had a work placement.

Research carried out by the Social Market Foundation* in 2023.
