LEBC, Sir Isaac Newton and SkyConnect Ignite Passion for Aviation and Space Careers

The LEBC STEM Team hosted the annual Sir Isaac Newton Lecture on Wednesday, 9th October 2024, at Skegness Academy, offering students a rare chance to engage with top experts in the aviation, aerospace, and space industries. This year’s event was proudly sponsored by AeroDiscover, further enhancing the experience for attendees.

Themed around “Space Sustainability: Earth’s Orbits at Risk,” the lecture featured a keynote address by Jennifer Barry of the UK Space Agency. Her thought-provoking presentation shed light on the growing challenges and opportunities within space exploration, capturing the imaginations of the students in attendance and emphasizing the urgent need for responsible management of Earth’s orbital environment.

The event also featured a series of dynamic TED-style talks from leading industry professionals. Chris Gorton from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) provided insights into the future of aviation, focusing on the transformative potential of eVTOLs and drones. Luke Cabot introduced the audience to a breakthrough in sustainable aviation fuel, and additional speakers covered a range of cutting-edge topics, from space exploration to Chinook helicopter engineering and the life of a Typhoon Fighter pilot.

The lecture was a tremendous success, inspiring the next generation of aviators, engineers, and space professionals while offering an invaluable glimpse into the latest innovations shaping these exciting fields.
