Coalville C.A.N’s Bridge to the Community Challenge Winners!

Congratulations to Forest Way School and Newbold CoE Primary School!

To celebrate British Science Week and this year’s theme of ‘connections’ Coalville C.A.N community space, working with the East Midlands STEM Ambassador Hub here at LEBC, we challenged children from local Coalville area primary and secondary schools to build a model bridge to be put on display at the space during the week.

Working from a restricted list of materials, the Bridge to the Community Challenge tasked primary and secondary school children with designing and building a bridge to carry as heavy a load as possible. Schools were allowed to submit a maximum of two bridges for the display. STEM Ambassadors visited schools taking part to provide advice and support and then judged the final bridges for entry to the competition at Coalville C.A.N. The bridges were displayed at Coalville C.A.N community space during British Science Week (9th March – 18th March).

Congratulations to the winners, each winning £100:

  • Forest Way School – Secondary category
  • Newbold Church of England Primary School – Primary category

Thank you to STEM Ambassadors from Rolls Royce, Ventus Enterprises Ltd and Winvic for volunteering to judge!
