Coalville C.A.N’s “Bridge to the Community” Challenge

Are you a Coalville area school? Take part in this competition!

To celebrate British Science Week and this year’s theme of ‘connections’ Coalville C.A.N community space, working with the East Midlands STEM Ambassador Hub, would like to challenge children from local Coalville area primary and secondary schools to build a model bridge to be put on display at the space during the week.

Working from a restricted list of materials (download the leaflet for more info), the Bridge to the Community Challenge tasks primary and secondary school children with designing and building a bridge to carry as heavy a load as possible. Schools are allowed to submit a maximum of two bridges for the display. STEM Ambassadors* will be available to visit schools taking part to provide advice and support and will judge the final bridges for entry to the competition. Marks will be awarded for concept development, the design process, the aesthetic appearance of the bridge and the weight supported.

THE COMPETITION CLOSING DATE IS MONDAY 6TH MARCH.

We will collect the bridges from your school to be displayed at Coalville C.A.N community space during British Science Week (9th March – 18th March, viewable Thurs – Sat, 10am till 4pm). STEM Ambassadors will judge the bridges on 10th March.
